Ensuring maximized vessel performance for our customers

Situation & Challenge: Streamline vessel performance monitoring

We operate a large time charter fleet of vessels. To stay competitive, we constantly monitor and evaluate performance factors, including weather impact on the vessels’ results. This proves to be a rather involved process and it highlighted the need to create a vessel performance monitoring system that takes weather into account.

Solution: Interactive vessel performance matrix

We combined the technical knowledge of a marine engineer with that of a master mariner and a freight trader to create an interactive performance matrix for all vessels we chartered. We use this matrix to maximize vessel performance and optimize commercial decisions. The matrix offers three interfaces:

  • Post-voyage analysis of performance data on vessels considering the weather conditions encountered
  • A weather routing service allowing us to work in real time with owners to adjust sailing routes for enhanced performance
  • Total fleet analysis, based on performance records for an entire fleet of any given owner

At the heart of our ability to offer these services is Cargill’s comprehensive database of vessels’ previous voyages and related weather information. The database currently includes nearly 3,000 records and grows daily.

Results

By combining the performance database with our rigorous screening policies, your cargoes have a much better probability of arriving safely, in good condition and on time.
